Is CBD a Good Sleep Aid & How do I Use It?

10% of people try CBD in hopes to get better sleep, as almost 80% of Americans have trouble sleeping at least once a week. CBD works within your endocannabinoid system to help you maintain homeostasis, or, the body’s natural state of balance and stability. As we come to further understand cannabinoids like CBD, more anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits seem to arise.

How Does CBD Help Me Get Better Sleep?

CBD may promote better sleep because it might help reduce anxiety and manage pain, which are some of the main causes of poor sleep. CBD may also help with:

A 2019 study published in The Permanente Journal focused on the application of CBD in 72 patients with sleep and anxiety complaints. Out of these, 48 patients improved their sleep by the end of the first month, while the anxiety of 57 patients decreased greatly.

In a different study from 2014, 4 patients, with REM Sleep Behavior Disorder (RBD), noticed a great improvement in their sleep patterns after having been introduced to CBD (without side effects).

One of the main terpenes in CBD strains is myrcene, which is known to be a natural sedative. A possible link between myrcene and better sleep is being studied.
